ATTENTION: Wilkes Has Talent

Updated Audition Guidelines

1. Wilkes Has Talent auditions will be held on March 22 at the Wilkes Heritage Museum.  Competition dates are March 31.

2. An entry form for each act must be completed and signed by the participant. A signed, parent permission form for each performer in that act including accompanists must accompany each entry form. Completed entry forms and permission forms are due one week prior to auditions to the Wilkes Heritage Museum, attention Jennifer Furr.  Submission deadlines March 15.  There will be a limit of 50 entries per quarter.

3. Acts must include students that have a Wilkes County address, attend Wilkes County Public Schools, Wilkes County home school associations or colleges where the student attended Wilkes County Schools prior to college.  Any false information is grounds for automatic disqualification.

4. Participants must be between the ages of 8 years and 23 years.  Auditions will be divided according to age group (8-12 years; 13-17 years; 18-23 years).  Participants from each age category will be chosen to compete with one over-all winner picked by judges per quarter.

5. No participant will be allowed to audition in more than one act per quarter.

6. Due to space limitations, no dance acts will be permitted.

7. "Professional" acts will not be allowed to participate under the name of the business from which they receive their instruction. However, if these students wish to audition, they may do so under a different name as long as the criteria in these guidelines are followed.

8. Each act must have a name.

9. Live animals are not allowed in any act.

10. Acts may not exceed 5 minutes including set-up, performance and exit.

11. If the act involves an instrument, acoustical instruments are preferred.
Electronic instruments are allowed but please be aware of set-up and exit time requirements when considering using these instruments.

12. Vocalists may have up to 2 accompanists and instrumentalists may have one.
Accompanists do not have to be students, but the student's talent should be that which is showcased, not the accompanist.

13. A piano/electric keyboard with bench and microphones will be provided. All other equipment must be supplied by auditioning act.

14. Pre-recorded music and other digital media may be used but must be submitted in CD or DVD format prior to auditions. (no CD-RW types) If not, an act may be disqualified. Please make copies, as there is no guarantee of discs being returned.

15. Acts must be performed in Wilkes Has Talent EXACTLY as they were performed in auditions. This includes instruments, props, recordings and accompanists.

16. Appropriate attire is required and should not be suggestive or lewd. Offensive humor, racial or ethnic slurs, inappropriate dress, offensive language or offensive music lyrics will automatically disqualify any act.

17. The content of any act must be appropriate for the age group of the performers and subject to judges' approval (i.e. song lyrics, etc.).

18. Parents who sign the permission form are agreeing that if their child's act is chosen for Wilkes Has Talent 2011/2012, their child will be present at sound checks/rehearsals. Sound checks/rehearsals are MANDATORY.  Sound checks/rehearsals will be scheduled the Saturday of the performance.

19. Parents who sign the permission form also agree that their child MUST remain in the audience for the entire show and may not leave prior to the end of the show.
Performers will be supervised by Wilkes Heritage Museum volunteers at all times including moving from the audience to the stage and back.

20. Auditions are closed to parents, guardians, relatives, friends, teachers and sponsors.

21. Parents or guardians may be present in the auditorium during sound checks/rehearsals at the Wilkes Heritage Museum, however, they will not be permitted backstage unless they serve as the accompanist for the act rehearsing.

22. Parents and/or participants not willing to comply with these requirements are advised to withdraw from Wilkes Has Talent 2011/2012 prior to the audition.

23. Following the auditions, the acts selected to perform in Wilkes Has Talent 2011/2012 each quarter will be publicly announced on a date and time to be determined by the Wilkes Has Talent committee.

24.  Guidelines are determined by the Wilkes Has Talent Committee.  Revisions of the guidelines are subject to the committees’ approval.

25.  Winners will be required to play at the next program date as well as other venues supported by the Wilkes Heritage Museum.
